The PCI DSS is a set of comprehensive requirements for enhancing payment account data security. It was developed by the founding payment brands of the PCI Security Standards Council (American Express, Discover Financial Services, JCB, MasterCard Worldwide and Visa International), to help facilitate the adoption of consistent data security measures globally. The PCI DSS includes requirements for security management, policies, procedures, network architecture, software design and other critical protective measures intended to proactively protect customer account data.

As a vendor that accepts credit cards, we are required to be compliant with DSS. Daisy Twist has taken several steps to ensure the safety of any credit card information provided to us and has implemented the following new procedures to safeguard your data:

The implementation of our online payments system at www.daisytwist.com/payments. This system uses a secure socket (SSL) implementation to ensure the safety of the data communicated in the session. This is the safest method of payment to us because we never see or store your full credit card number.

Our website and servers have been scanned for vulnerabilities by Trustwave to ensure compliance and to identify any potential security threats from hackers.

Our field staff is required to run your credit card payments on your site to ensure that they are not taking your credit card data with them. Our field procedure is to write down the confirmation code from the transaction and the last four digits of your credit card only.

Our office staff is instructed to shred any credit card numbers taken over the phone immediately after the transaction is complete.

We are no longer storing your credit card information in our systems to be run for balance payment. Although this may seem to be an inconvenience for some of our long term clients who were used to that practice, we are confident that the safety benefits will outweigh this inconvenience.

We are proud to offer this additional level of safety to our clients. If you have any questions regarding Daisy Twist’s level of PCI DSS compliance, please click the Trustwave logo above or contact us at our office.

Well, we’ve taken the next step in this online world and Twitterized ourselves to help keep our clients and followers up to date on what we are doing. What is Twitter you may ask? Twitter is an online social networking site that basically answers “What are you doing?” in 140 characters or less. This allows us to update you on new equipment, exciting news, or even just what goes on everyday at our offices and warehouse.

The simplest way to see our latest twitter “tweet” (that’s just Twitter talk for our latest post) is to simply scroll down to the bottom of our website. We would also love for you to follow us at twitter. Who knows – maybe we’ll even use our tweets to offer specials to our followers who tweet back!

My staff is pretty great about filtering the constant barrage of telemarketers, junk mail and spam mail for me. I’d say about 1/4 of our daily calls are someone calling saying “Have I got a deal for you small business owner… oh you aren’t the owner? Well put her on the phone”. Every once in a while, something that looks legitimate gets past the filters and ends up in my inbox for review. I received one such email today that, I have to admit, even had me second guessing it. I’ve posted it here in case someone receives the same:

(If you are NOT CEO,please forward this to your CEO, because this is urgent.Thanks.)
Dear CEO,

We are the department of registration service in China. we have something need to confirm with you.
Address:5/F,Max share Centre,373 King’s Road North Point, Hongkong

Looks legit doesn’t it? My husband and I, both with Information Technology backgrounds and degrees, even had to look at it twice. A simple Google search turned up that it is simply a scam, designed to put fear into the mind of the small business owner, thinking that they might lose their “brand” on the internet. The gist is that if you don’t snatch up these domains they will sell them to another company. OK – great! My business is local and we don’t plan on opening any Chinese, Hong Kong, or Taiwanese affiliates so they can have those domains if they want them!

I have to say how disheartened I am to know that we aren’t evolving as a species past scamming our neighbor out of their hard earned dollars. Worse yet, in the age of the internet, these so-called neighbors can come from as far as Hong Kong. But what I think is even more disappointing is that we have all become so numb to this behavior and so suspect of everyone else, we always assume that the other person is on the take.

As always, we will continue to operate Daisy Twist in a fair and just manner by providing impeccable service and open communication with our clients. I am always open to receiving comments on our service and hope to be given the opportunity to prove that we are providing a great service at a fair price.

What I am excited about is that spring is just weeks away and this warm 70s weather today has me itching to start our season! Happy End-of-Winter to all!
